Our Bees

We have 2 Bee Apiaries on site, with twelve bee hives between them. Our hives are managed by our neighbouring beekeeper Nick Bentham Green. Nick is a fascinating man who now dedicates his time to championing and breeding Black Bees (a local name for the honey bee sub-species Apis mellifera mellifera that is native to the British Isles). He is chairman of the Bee Improvement Programme for Cornwall and one of the Directors of B4 (Bring Back Black Bees), which is a community interest company looking at conserving the remnant populations of the Black Bee in Cornwall. Four members of our team are trained Beekeepers and help Nick on his weekly hive inspections and with the extraction of the honey.
